Monitoring and Results

The Federal Environment Agency and individual federal states perform measurements regularly. The Federal Environment Agency operates air quality stations located outside of agglomerations, industrial sites and power plants in order to ascertain the quality of long-range and transboundary air pollution. In contrast, the federal states are responsible for conducting regionwide measurements. Measuring stations in cities are located on streets with high and low traffic burdens, but also in rural areas. Current measurement and exceedance data from past years regarding the limit values for particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide, but also regarding other air pollutants, can be taken from the database of the Federal Environment Agency.

The environment ministries of the federal states which are responsible for monitoring air pollutant concentration also provide data and additional information on the development of air quality.
