Monitoring and results

The Federal Environment Agency and individual federal states perform measurements regularly. The Federal Environment Agency operates air quality stations located outside of agglomerations, industrial sites and power plants in order to ascertain the background pollution, trends and the transboundary air pollution. In contrast, the federal states are responsible for conducting measurements on high polluted areas in cities or larger towns and next to industry. All data are collected centrally by the Federal Environment Agency and made available for the public. They offer daily air quality reports for the air pollutants nitrogen dioxide (NO2), particulate matter (PM10), ozone , carbon monoxide (CO) and sulphur dioxide (SO2). The annual report or air quality measurements contains an analysis of all the data and summarizes the air quality situation in Austria. Current measurement and exceedance data from past years regarding the limit values for particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide, but also regarding other air pollutants, can be taken from the database of the Federal Environment Agency.
